The 3MT® competition was developed by the University of Queensland and is held annually by 900 universities in 85 countries worldwide. 3MT® challenges PhD researchers to pitch their PhD research to a non-specialist audience in a three-minute video.

PhD researchers from five UvA faculties were invited to take part in the 2022 UvA edition of the competition. Participants received training and coaching to produce the best video. Three candidates from each faculty have been selected for the UvA 3MT® final.

The finals

The UvA final will take place on 8 September from 14:30 till 18:00 at CREA. During the event, the videos will be presented and a jury will decide on a top 3 at the end of the event. Prize money will be awarded to the winner (1000 euros) and the two runners-up (500 euros each). The first prize winner will have their video submitted to the European 3MT® competition.

The following three PhD candidates from the Faculty of Humanities will take part in the final: Weixuan Li (Deep mapping painters and the art market in 17th century Amsterdam), Sabine Waasdorp (Shaping Spanishness) and Wenwen Guan (Metadiscourse helps your audience think in the intended way).
