The Forum for Film Education brings together scholars, educators, and curators for a cross-disciplinary exchange about film and education. On this inaugural forum, we welcome film and media theorists, filmmakers, programmers, pedagogues, anthropologists, psychologists, and social workers to map the evolving landscape of film pedagogy, from early screen education to adult media literacy.
With 2 roundtable discussions, 3 panels, various side-events (a VR installation and a toddler film screening), and a keynote lecture, this two-day event includes a wide range of perspectives that explore film literacy, pedagogy, archival and curatorial practices.
Keynote lecture: Jan Masschelein (KU Leuven)
Presentations by: Sheila J. Nayar (University of Utah), Chaorong Hua (Yale University), Nancy Vansieleghem (LUCA School of arts), Christian Olesen (University of Amsterdam), Mary-Joy van der Deure (University of Amsterdam), Colin Williamsen (University of Oregon), Wanda Strauven (Columbia University), Alexandra Schneider (University of Mainz), Mattijs van de Port (University of Amsterdam), Fabian Claes (Fabuch social cinema), Floor Hofman (Documentary maker, educator)

Additionally, students will be assigned a selection of readings from various speakers. If you want to participate for an EC, please write to Thijs Witty: t.witty@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
