Modelling sound learning with features vs categories and how to model L3 acquisition and sociolinguistic effects.
I will briefly present the paper “Feature-driven new sound category formation: computational implementation with the L2LP model and beyond”, and open to discussion. I will then present the evolution of a previously proposed idea to model L3 acquisition and the role of sociolinguistic factors, such as attitudes and identity, driving language proficiency and control in multilinguals. The latter was included in a recent grant application for funding by the Australian Research Council comments and potential collaboration would be great for the next stages of the project.
