Practical Thesis Supervision (Referaat)

You can enrol at the University of Amsterdam for supervision of your practical thesis (referaat). This thesis is part of the third year of the RA practical training programme. In the thesis, you demonstrate your ability to deal with complex professional dilemmas and to place these dilemmas within a broader societal context.

Thesis groups at the University of Amsterdam

We provide supervision for the practical thesis in small groups of 4 to 6 students. The supervision consists of 6 meetings of 3 hours each. The practical thesis supervision is overseen by Dr. Sytse Duiverman RA.

For whom?

You are eligible to participate in a thesis group once you have progressed to the sixth semester of the practical training programme. At the time of the defence, your fifth semester must have been completed.

The thesis groups are open to both alumni of the University of Amsterdam and alumni of other universities. To ensure diversity within the group, we place a maximum of 2 to 3 trainees from the same firm in one group.

When?

The exact dates will be announced at a later stage, but you can already register using the form below.

The schedule will be announced no later than July 2026. The group will start in September or October and meetings will take place on weekdays, either from 09:00–12:00, 13:00–16:00, or - less likely - in the evening from 18:00–21:00.

Where?

The thesis group meetings take place at the Amsterdam Business School, Plantage Muidergracht 12, Amsterdam.

Costs

The participation fee for a thesis group is:

€2,150 per participant for alumni of the PMA programme at the University of Amsterdam
€2,450 per participant for non-alumni
