Michael Williams is a grant adviser in the UvA-HvA team at Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA). He is assigned to the Faculty of Humanities and the Amsterdam Law School, and provides support for consortium grants across the Social Sciences and Humanities.
Michael studied History, Political Thought and Classics at the University of Cambridge, completing his PhD in 2003. He spent 15 years as a researcher in Ancient History, serving as Lecturer in Ancient Classics at Maynooth University from 2008 to 2018. During that time he supervised two PhDs to completion and examined three more. He also provided peer review for international journals and for publishers including Cambridge University Press.
In 2018 he moved to the Netherlands and worked as a copy editor and proofreader, first freelance and then for the research centre and academic publisher IBFD. He was also a tutor on the PhD skills programme at the University of Twente. Three years later he joined IXA and the University of Amsterdam.
As a researcher he published broadly on Christian intellectual culture in late antiquity, including monographs on Christian Biography and the Politics of Heresy. A full list of publications can be found on ORCID.
