Experiments in the Speech Lab allow researchers to answer questions about the perception and production, as well as about the acquisition and diachronic change of language and speech.

Day-to-day business in the Speech Lab is managed by a phonetic-audiovisual technician, who supervises the use of the Lab. There are two studios with demountable cabins. Both cabins have setups for EEG and eye tracking. Phoneticians make up about half the time, other major users are other researchers from the ACLC, ILLC, developmental psychologists and educators.
