This ACLC workshop for PhD candidates deals with the ins and outs of a PhD defense.

Detail Summary
Date 14 February 2020
Time 16:15 - 17:30
Location P.C. Hoofthuis
Room 5.56

Arjen Versloot, Kees Hengeveld, Aafke Hulk and Caitlin Meyer (defended in 2019) have kindly agreed to take part in this workshop as hands-on experts on this matter.

They will share their experiences with you regarding the content (rather than practical) side of the ceremony and give tips on how to prepare for your defense. They will discuss matters such as how to answer the committee’s questions effectively, how (and if) to consider the audience (including non-linguists) in addressing the questions, are there specific conventions to be taken into account, and what makes a good lay presentation (‘lekenpraatje’)?

These are just some of the questions that can be addressed and there will be ample opportunity for further discussion.
