Golden Age symposium: the dress of Texel
In April 2016, the world was momentarily grasping a unique discovery nearby Texel: a shipwreck full of extraordinary objects from the seventeenth century. Especially the well preserved dress that appeared appealed to everybody’s imagination and led to much speculation. What else emerged from the water? What do we know about the origin of the wreck and the objects inside, and what is still to be investigated?
On 23 May, the Amsterdam Centre of the Golden Age will organise a symposium about the discovery. Arent Vos (Cultural Heritage Agency) shall speak about the maritime archeological research. Maarten van Bommel (UvA, Conservation science), Nadine Akkerman (Leiden University, English department) and Helmer Helmers (UvA, Dutch language and culture) will present their research projects about these intriguing treasures.
Entry is free, but reservations are mandatory. Make your reservation at email@example.com.
